TODDLER COMMUNITY
Serving ages 18 months to 3 years.
Our Montessori Toddler Environment, designed for children 18–36 months, offers a bilingual (English & Chinese) setting where little ones absorb language naturally. Curriculum & Activities
The Toddler Community contains several carefully prepared areas:
Practical Life Skills

We begin by fostering independence through practical life skills, the foundation of every Montessori environment and a bridge between home and community. Children engage in activities such as: Care of Self – washing hands, dressing, toilet independence, self-feeding. Care of Others – grace and courtesy lessons, learning from peers, and developing socialization skills Care of the Environment – washing, dusting, sweeping, watering Movement of Furniture – building responsibility and purposeful movement
Language Development

Our Toddler Community provides a Bilingual (English-Chinese) language-rich setting where children are immersed in clear, precise, and expressive communication. During this sensitive period for language, adults model correct speech and vocabulary while encouraging natural conversation. Children explore language through stories, songs, picture cards, and real objects, all designed to expand their understanding and expression. Within this warm framework of trust, toddlers develop the confidence to share their thoughts and communicate with others.
Social & Emotional Development

The Montessori Toddler Classroom is thoughtfully prepared to support the child’s growing sense of self and connection with others. Grace and courtesy lessons, daily routines, and opportunities to work side by side help toddlers develop empathy, patience, and respect. Through these early experiences, children begin to recognize and manage their own feelings, build confidence, and form meaningful friendships. With gentle guidance from teachers, toddlers learn cooperation, sharing, and peaceful problem-solving, laying the foundation for strong social and emotional well-being.
Movement & Physical Development

The Toddler Community supports both fine and gross motor growth through purposeful activities and play. Classroom materials invite children to practice sorting, cutting, sewing, and other tasks that strengthen coordination and control. These experiences refine eye–hand coordination, balance, and an understanding of cause and effect. An indoor gym playset provides children with safe opportunities to move, climb, and explore year-round. These activities strengthen gross motor skills, improve balance and coordination, and support healthy physical development. Beyond physical growth, active play also helps children build confidence, learn to take safe risks, and develop a natural sense of body awareness.
Music & Art Exploration

In the Toddler Community, art and music are offered as joyful forms of self-expression rather than just end products. Children have daily access to materials such as crayons, paints, chalk, and clay, with opportunities to explore sewing, gluing, and cutting as their skills grow. Music is woven into the environment through singing, listening to recordings, and experimenting with percussion instruments. Together, art and music nurture creativity, refine coordination, and enrich language and vocabulary in meaningful ways.
Cognitive Learning

The environment is intentionally designed with specialized Montessori materials that promote sensory exploration, fine motor development, and early problem-solving. These experiences foster independence, concentration, and a natural sense of order. By engaging with these hands-on activities, toddlers build a strong foundation for future academic learning while developing curiosity, confidence, and a love for discovery.
First Friends

In the Toddler Community, children begin making their first friends and learning how to be part of a group. These early experiences of sharing, cooperation, and belonging help shape confidence and social skills. The friendships formed during this stage often grow stronger as children continue their journey through the Montessori program. In our Toddler Classroom, we occasionally celebrate special days such as Mother’s Day, cultural festivals, and friends’ birthdays. These joyful group experiences give toddlers the chance to share in celebration, enjoy a sense of belonging, and begin building the foundations of early friendship.
Toilet Learning

Toileting is an important part of the Montessori Toddler curriculum and a key step in building independence. In the Young Children’s Community, children wear cloth underwear during the day, allowing them to experience the natural feedback needed to understand their own bodily functions. With the support of patient and trained adults, children are gently guided through this process at their own pace.
Independent Eating

In the Montessori Toddler Classroom, children are encouraged to feed themselves independently during snack and meal times. This simple practice nurtures self-reliance, coordination, and confidence, while also introducing healthy eating habits from an early age. By preparing and enjoying wholesome, homemade snacks, toddlers not only develop important practical life skills but also experience a sense of accomplishment and joy in caring for themselves.
Transition to Kindy class

When toddlers show signs of readiness—usually between two and a half and three years old—they begin visiting a Primary classroom. With guidance from teachers and support from parents, the child gradually transitions into the Kindy program. This process unfolds naturally, ensuring the child feels secure, confident, and prepared for the next stage of learning.
Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.
